Nighthawks - January 2, 2016

One thing I didn’t mention when I was recapping either Birdie New Year’s Eve or Icehouse New Year’s Day was that between the two I misplaced my check card. I hadn’t been anywhere between the two locations besides walking to my car, the drive home, and my house, so I figured I probably left it at Birdie. It didn’t help that Nighthawks (Birdie’s attached restaurant) was closed on New Year’s Day, but I had cash enough, so it wasn’t an emergency.

It being Saturday, and not hearing anything from Nighthawks I figured I’d head there after volunteering to get a definite answer. I really didn’t want to have to call the bank to report a lost card, there’d been no activity, and I figured I could grab some lunch or at least a late breakfast.

Good news? They had my card. Great news? I decided to finally get what I lovingly refer to as the Foie-melette.

Foie Gras & Cheese Omelette with strawberry preserves, French brie, and brioche toast: Just as delicious and decadent as it sounds. Lots of fat and umami cut by the sweetness from the strawberries. It’s probably best between a couple of people, not because of its size, but because of its richness. I powered through it though.

T’s Caramel Roll: I needed a little more sweetness to cut the richness from the omelette and this did just that. Sticky, sweet, good. Next time I might check if they can heat it for a few seconds to get some warmth on it, maybe with a small slather of butter on the plate, not too much as to add richness, just enough for some nuttiness. (I wonder if brown butter caramel would handle that desire? I might need to bake soon.)
