I bought a map.

An actual folding paper map.  I have a GPS unit and my phone has pretty good navigation when there’s a signal, but I realized if I get into the middle of nowhere and my GPS conks out and I don’t have phone reception, I’m up sh*t creek without a paddle.

I’m looking at it as a conversation starter too. If at lunch or dinner I pull out the map and start studying it I’m hoping there’s a few decent enough people that come up and drop the proverbial “where you headed?"  This should let me start talking about the journey without too much trouble.

Plus, I can mark up the map and indicate where I’ve been, so I’ll have a larger physical representation to share with folks instead of whipping out the phone or computer every time I want to talk about the trip.
