Singapore Thai - December 4, 2015

I don’t tend to get sick, barring infrequent bouts of food sickness, so when I have friends that end up under the weather I generally offer to grab them food or go out if they’re willing to brave the elements. I’m willing to take the risk.

Some ills call for soup, some call for spice, some call for both. That’s how I ended up at Singapore Thai with my friend Rachel.

Apparently Singapore Thai used to be a grand experience in another part of town when it had a different head chef. One of the tables had newspaper clippings under glass from a wide swath of media, local to national. It wasn’t very busy on a Friday night. I hope it was an off night.

We had an appetizer of spring rolls that weren’t quite tightly wrapped, but were tasty regardless. I forgot to take a picture, as I’m wont to do when dining with one additional diner. I get gladly wrapped up in conversation and taking pictures of food becomes the last thing on my mind.

She ordered a soup, I ordered a curry.

Captain’s Curry: Described as “a complex mixture of 27 different spices and ingredients to make this wonderful and aromatic chicken curry,” I was expecting a little more heat when I asked for medium spicy. The flavors were good, it was nice to get a fair amount of vegetables, I don’t get near enough I think. If I ordered it again I’d definitely go a little spicier.

If you’re in the Nokomis neighborhood maybe check it out. I’d go again, but I might forget about it if presented an alternative choice.
